I got this nearly 3 years ago [on my 18th birthday] and it is still my favourite after 6 more.
The original story is from Plato’s Symposium, but I discovered it from the film Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which is where the inspiration for the actual drawing comes from.
Plato basically says that in the beginning of time there were these beings that were two people as one, with their backs to each other. There were three sets; the descendants of the sun, or two male bodies, the descendants of the earth, two female bodies, and the descendants of the moon, androgynes [male and female]. Zeus got angry at these begins and split them apart. And now, you are forever searching for your other half, your soul mate. The story is called the origin of love.
I strongly believe in soul mates [they don’t necessarily have to be romantically involved, either] and, because I’m gay, the two females seemed appropriate.

This is the tattoo I had done on the 25th of September 2011. Mark Kazuro of Kazuro Tattoos in Maleny did it in about twenty minutes and put so much effort into it - he is amazing and cares so much for his work.
